Peace Beyond Borders
From May 18th to 22th 2008 a cross border peace conference and sports tournament has taken place in Kapoeta, Eastern Equatoria State aiming at youth warriors from Sudan, Uganda and Kenya. The conference is an initiative from the implementing organisation of the Peace & Sports programme for youth warriors assisted by IKV Pax Christi and SOPA. Read more about this cross border event.
 
UPDF kills Turkana pastoralists-Civil Society being denied to mediate
The Uganda Army (UPDF) attacked four Turkana kraals who had crossed the border into Uganda in search for pasture and water for their animals. 4000 people were directly affected by the heavy gunfire of UPDF. LOKADO went to the spot to collect the injured people and to bury 10 women and children. Read the full report!

Responses to pastoral wars
Small Arms Survey (SAS) published a review of violence reduction efforts in Sudan, Uganda and Kenya. The article gives an excellent picture of the current situation in southern Sudan, northern Uganda and north-western Kenya. It shows the difficulties and challenges the pastoralists are facing and the causes and consequences of conflicts in these areas. Read the full article here
 
Bishop demands just distribution of oil wealth
Bishop Paride Taban, the emeritus Bishop of the diocese of Torit in the south of Sudan, has called for a just distribution of wealth created by oil production. In an interview with the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) on the 16th of october 2007 the Bishop stressed that nobody knows where the money goes and nobody is able to check who is profiting from it. held in Entebbe, Uganda on May 8th-30th 2007, Rom ano
Longole of Kotido Peace Initiative (KOPEIN) gave an excellent speech on this issue. His article gives an overview of past

Eldoret Declaration
Participants of a workshop on conflict management and sports as a tool for peace building, organised by SOPA and IKV Pax Christi, declared their commitment to Peace & Sports. The workshop has been held in Eldoret (Kenya) from November 29th to December 9th 2007, involving youth warriors from Jie (Uganda), Turkana (Kenya) and
Murle, Kachipo, Toposa from Sudan. Read their declaration!
