Become a Supporter of Peace & Sports!
The youth pastoralists of the Peace & Sports programme are constantly looking for support. They need your help to change the violent situation in their pastoralist communities and to create a situation were different tribes life peacefully together.
Cross border tournament and peace meeting
IKV Pax Christi and local partners from Kenya, Uganda and Sudan have
organised a cross border peace conference and sports tournament in Southern Sudan in May 2008. During this big event different pastoralist tribes came together to talk about peace, and to seek for local solutions to stop cattle raiding. Together they are playing for peace.
The Wilde Ganzen Foundation in the Netherlands has been assembling funding for this unique cross border event. Now there is a need for a follow up to maintain the peace and support development initiatives. The pastoralists from Kenya, Uganda en Sudan need your help to realise this! Sustainable Footballs
The youth warriors in Kenya, Uganda and Sudan are playing for peace by using footballs and volleyballs provided by the Nairobi based organisation Alive and Kicking. This organisation produces hand stitched leather balls, which are made in a responsible way. The balls are of a good quality, made of local leather, and easy to repair. By producing the balls Alive and Kicking stimulates the local economy and, at the same time, creates awareness on issues like HIV/ AIDS and Malaria. The Peace and Sports programme buys the footballs and volleyballs from Alive and Kicking, to support their good work and to promote our own message: "Playing for Peace!". You can support the youth warriors by buying a football or volleyball for the programme. The costs are only € 10,- per ball, covering the cost prize and administration. Other Support
Of course any other support for the programme is welcome. You could think of approaching a local sports club in your neighbourhood to adopt a team of the Peace and Sports programme. Other activities could be organising a benefit match on a school, combined with showing the "Playing for Peace" movie. Or you can tel the story of "Peace and Sports" in your church, using peace prayers/ songs and poems. Our "playing for peace" team in The Netherlands is happy to support your campaigning activities by providing you with information and some materials like the "Playing for Peace"-movie, T-shirts, footballs, memory games, peace whistles and other background information.
