Pax Christi Netherlands

Pax Christi Netherlands is an independent movement and autonomous section of Pax Christi International, an international peace movement whose 60,000 members operate in fifty countries. We want to give a voice, in the Netherlands and in areas in conflict, to the hope for peace, cooperation and reconciliation, and justice and to contribute to the establishment of an international rule of law.

We believe that peace is possible. We take our inspiration from the Catholic community in which we are rooted and from the ecumenical orientation and interfaith cooperation emblematic of Pax Christi. Peace is a task that rests on all of us.

We take our inspiration from our core value: solidarity with the victims of violence and with those working for peace. We consider this value orientation to be the ultimate measure with which we determine the quality of our work and render account to our stakeholders.

We pursue demilitarisation and resolution of conflicts, strengthening of democracy and international law and the building of peace. That is our core objective.

We are responsible to our stakeholders: our partners in the countries where Pax Christi operates, out supporters in the Netherlands, our donors and our paid and volunteer staff.

We work by influencing policy, by preventing and resolving conflicts, by strengthening our partners' capacities, by building peace and by profiling our mission and expanding and mobilising our support base. These are our intervention strategies.

We are an actor working for political change as networker and intermediary that links people to one another and as partner in development that supports partner organisations with knowledge and material help.

We work with Pax Christi International, our international umbrella organisation, with Cordaid, our strategic partner and with many other development organisations social organisations, national and municipal governments, businesses and churches.

As of 1 January 2007, we joined IKV to form the "IKV Pax Christi partnership".
