Our work in the Netherlands

Since 2006 IKV Pax Christi has turned its thoughts to the unrest between the different cultural and religious population groups in the Netherlands. Antipathy finds forceful expression in political policy, public debates, journalists' reports and the way people treat one another in the public arena. This reinforces exclusion, withdrawal and verbal and other types of violence rather than resolving them. Where opportunities are scarce, threats take over. Neglect allows this mechanism to take root and transfers it to successive generations.

Because of its mission, IKV Pax Christi wants to be a contact point for 'peace in its own home, the Netherlands'. This vision of justice and peace extends further than the absence of physical violence or war. Violence is a matter of inequality and social injustice. These views lead to the conclusion that we, too, want to contribute to closing the gap along with the many others that are already doing do. Our supporters in the churches, platforms and in government have been working on this issue locally and nationally for years. That is why a peace movement is becoming involved in this.
