Africa
IKV Pax Christi's interventions are focussed on the part of Africa that has come to known as "Greater Horn" i.e. the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region. It comprises the following states: Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Congo, Ethiopia, Burundi and Rwanda .
This choice to work in the Northeast of Africa is explained by the history of IKV Pax Christi's involvement in Africa, which started in Sudan. From 1992 Pax Christi Netherlands has been an active advocate for a peaceful solution of the civil war. It has supported women peace groups in Sudan. It is implementing an inter-communal peace program in Eastern Equatoria. In Europe, IKV Pax Christi leads the European Coalition for Oil in Sudan. In Uganda, IKV Pax Christ is supporting peace initiatives and plays an important role in the debate on disarmament. IKV Pax Christi has started research on arms proliferation in Ethiopia and Kenya.
Pax Christi International, and its Flemish, Walloon and German sections, have long standing contacts in Central Africa, in RD Congo, Burundi and Rwanda, which started with the war in Sudan. However, this involvement does not preclude interest and willingness to advocate for peace in other war-torn areas of the continent: Angola, the Mano River States.
