Kashmir

Kashmir has been a source of conflict for sixty years. For the last fifteen years, it has been the theatre of a war with mainly civilian casualties. This violence has paralysed society; there are practically no independent civil society institutions in either the Indian or the Pakistani parts of Kashmir. IKV Pax Christi has been working with the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) since 2002. This is a coalition of independent, secular, non-government organisations operating in the Indian part of Kashmir. The coalition's stated objective is to stimulate growth in the civilian population’s involvement in society. By participating in partnership projects, IKV Pax Christi and JKCCS support civilian non-violent activities and organisations and overcome Kashmir's political isolation as well as encouraging European involvement in the region.
