As a result of the departure of our present program officer IKV Pax Christi is looking for a:

Senior program officer Iraq (0.8)

as a member of the Middle East and Asia team.

The program officer works in cooperation with other program officers on the Middle East program, including one junior program officer on Iraq, and the regional team leader, who has the final responsibility.

The program officer will play a crucial role in the formulation of the Iraq program for the next five year period (2011-2015), as part of the funding proposal that IKV Pax Christi will present to the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFS II). The program officer will be involved directly in context analysis and strategic policy development.

Tasks

  • Strategic analysis, reflection and policy development
  • Portfolio management: planning and budget management, identification of partners and projects, acquisition of external funding, monitoring of content and budget of ongoing projects and evaluation
  • Communication with partners, donors, strategic partners and other stakeholders
  • Lobby and advocacy, awareness raising in the Netherlands and Europe
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced professional in peace programs and/or international cooperation who is available at short notice. A team player who is also able to function autonomously, decisive and accurate, and who has the necessary analytical and communicative capacities. He or she is able to master the details of the job quickly and to operate tactfully in a political sensitive context.

Requirements

  • University degree, preferably in social or political sciences or Arabic, or a comparable level
  • Experience in lobby and advocacy and public political debate
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Middle East, preferably in Iraq
  • At least five years of relevant experience with political peace programs and/or international cooperation  
  • Excellent active and passive capacities in English and Arabic is required
  • Knowledge of Dutch language is recommended
  • Willingness to travel to (parts of) Iraq depending on the security situation
