Nuclear disarmament: from pious hope to political reality

A delegation of Pax Christi International lead by Msgr. Laurent Monsengwo and Marie Dennis, Co-Presidents, met at the Secretariat of State in the Vatican on 29 October 2009 with Msgr. Ettore Balestrero, Under Secretary, and Dr. Paolo Conversi who is dealing with disarmament and non proliferation issues. Participants discussed on the role of the Catholic Church and of Pax Christi International in order to strengthen the international momentum needed for a world free of nuclear weapons.

The delegation of Pax Christi International in the Vatican consisted of Msgr. Monsengwo and Marie Dennis (Co-Presidents Pax Christi International); Bishop Ad Van Luyn (President Pax Christi Netherlands); Bishop Marc Stenger (President Pax Christi France); Dave Robinson (Executive Director Pax Christi USA); Ben Schennink (Pax Christi Netherlands); Don Renato Capovilla and Don Renato Sacco (Pax Christi Italy); Claudette Werleigh (Secretary General Pax Christi International); Fr. Paul Lansu (Senior Policy Advisor Pax Christi International).
 
The Pax Christi sections in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands issed a Statement on Nuclear Disarmament.
